Historique :
Selon la légende, l'abbaye aurait été fondée par Enimie, fille du roi Clotaire II, guérie de la lèpre avoir s'être baignée dans les sources de Burles. Entre le VIIIe et le Xe siècle, les deux monastères, l'un de femmes, l'autre d'hommes, furent détruits par les invasions. L'évêque de Mende céda les ruines du monastère masculin à l'abbaye de Saint-Chaffre-en-Velay, en 951. Ce monastère subsista jusqu'en 1789. La chapelle moderne de l'Ermitage abrite la grotte où aurait vécu sainte Enimie. Les bâtiments qui subsistent ne remontent pas au delà du XIIe siècle. Ils sont disposés en équerre sur une plateforme. Le bâtiment faisant face au midi a été très remanié. Seule une salle voûtée à l'extrémité Est conserve des chapiteaux sculptés. Une cheminée du XVe siècle existe au premier étage. Le bâtiment à l'est est plus complet. C'est une longue salle de quatre travées, recouverte d'une voûte en berceau avec colonnes engagées. Des arcs latéraux allègent les murs, suivant la tradition provençale. Une salle voûtée ayant pu servir de cellier est conservée au-dessous. Au-dessus se voient les restes d'un clocher. Plus au nord, derrière le premier bâtiment, s'élève une petite chapelle romane voûtée en berceau avec abside en cul de four. Toutes les autres constructions de l'abbaye ont disparu.
