Historique :
Ancienne villa impériale devenue un exemple de palace de style néo-Louis XIII. Vers 1854, le couple impérial acheta des hectares de dunes qu'il fit aménager par l'ingénieur Dagueret afin de créer un domaine avec parc, bois, prairies, potager, étang, dépendances et demeure estivale. Les travaux de la villa débutèrent en 1854, menés par l'architecte Louis-Auguste Couvrechef et l'inspecteur Bertrand. Au décès de Couvrechef en 1857, ils se poursuivirent sous la direction de l'architecte Ancelet et de l'inspecteur Oscar Tisnès. La villa présentait un long corps de bâtiment principal avec trois ailes perpendiculaires, la dernière plus courte que les autres qui formaient une cour d'honneur. En 1867, la villa fut haussée d'un étage et transformée. Au décès de l'empereur, l'impératrice Eugénie vendit le domaine en 1880 à la Banque de l'Union Parisienne. La villa fut transformée en hôtel casino. En 1903, un incendie ravagea l'édifice. L'architecte Edouard Niermans releva l'hôtel de ses ruines. Le programme prévoyait la conservation des murs extérieurs, la création de trois cents chambres, d'appartements, de salons et d'une salle de restaurant. Le rez-de-chaussée est doté d'un vaste hall, d'une salle des fêtes et d'un jardin d'hiver en rotonde. La construction introduit l'usage du béton armé et le chainage entre les parties conservées et les nouvelles. Un décor a été plaqué sur cette ossature : brique, pierre et ardoises.
