Description :
Eglise à un vaisseau principal et deux collatéraux voûtés en berceau plein-cintre ; choeur à chevet plat voûté en berceau ; absidiole sud voûtée en cul-de-four et couverte d'un toit à croupe ronde . Décor : chapiteaux sculptés de feuilles plates dans l'absidiole. Clocher hors-oeuvre couvert d'une flèche carrée
Historique :
L'église paroissiale Saint-Vincent de Canilhac a été considérée comme l'ancienne chapelle castrale car située non loin du donjon. Cependant, la présence de l'enclos du cimetière, trace d'un ancien « cercle de paix » ou cercle ecclésial, témoigne d'une occupation antérieure, vers l'an 1000. Au Moyen Age, Canilhac était le siège de l'une des huit baronnies du Gévaudan. L'église romane connut des modifications au XIVe siècle (enfeu de la chapelle du transept nord) et à l'époque moderne (bas-côtés). L'édifice a souffert pendant les guerres de religion et a dû être réparé au XVIIe siècle. Construite en calcaire et en grès rouge (pour les chaînes d'angle et les ouvertures), caractéristique des environs de La Canourgue, c'est un édifice de construction soignée. L'église présente aussi l'intérêt d'avoir conservé son dallage ancien.
L'église Saint-Vincent est sans doute à l'origine la chapelle du château mentionné au XIe siècle (Daucet) . Construction probable de la nef, de l'absidiole sud et du choeur au XIIe siècle. Les chapelles formant faux transept seraient, d'après Daucet, de la même époque que la nef ; adjonction de collatéraux voûtés en berceaux à une date inconnue (fin XVIe ou XVIIe siècle)
